happy new year

Happy New Year of running. Another year to try to become an Ultramarathoner. My resolutions? To be more consistent with my running/training by running more frequently and pushing myself harder than I have this year. I also really want to change my eating habits and try to eat smaller portions, more frequently. These will both be tough for me to change and be consistent with. My racing goals for the year are to set a PR at the Cascade 1/2 Marathon (which shouldnt be too tough since last years time was so poor - but you never know). The eating change will be tough because I have a hard time planning my meals out that far ahead. For some reason, it is easier to eat that way at work during the week than it is on the weekend. I know I will need to do some good planning on what it will look like before I go for it.

Running has been hard with the holidays and family in town. Did a 7 miler today with Mike, the pace was unusually slow due to the terrain, but it felt like all I had in me to go that distance at that pace. Family leaves today, so it will be a long rest of the weekend putting our house back together. I Hope anyone who reads this blog had a great Christmas and New Years!! Good luck with all your 2009 running goals.

about time!

I finally got to go for a short run today, and it was about time! Mike came back from Missouri last night and we went for a short run today at Bush Park. There was still a fair bit of ice on the trail and there were lots of trees down! It was pretty wild. One tree was split in half and halfways it was almost 3 feet across. We ended up doing laps around the track and caught up on what happened over mikes travels. It was good to get the wheels turning again, I wasnt feeling like myself with all this sitting around doing nothing. I was going nuts! Anyway, with the weather turning back to normal, it'll be good to get back into the swing of things. The cascade 1/2 is 2 weeks away, should be fun. I need to get my head wrapped around starting ultra training. Ive gotta register for the PCT 50 miler on Jan 1st. The Pain Train guarantees that it is an awesome race.

winter wonderland!

This Sunday, I participated in a modified verson of the Pain Train Challenge. It ended up being about an 8 mile trail run with a group of dudes lacking the sense to stay out of the snow! What a day, there were parts of the trail that had to have been covered in over a foot of snow. It was so beautiful out there, it was unreal. I seriously need to invest in a little (light weight) pocket camera to take on these runs. That'd be awesome. I kept towards the back of the pack, going at a glacial pace. I'd like to blame the snow on the trail for my slowness!

This weather is awesome, but it had really put a hamper on my lifestyle. I ususally bike to work everyday, and the snow has put a stop to that. It has also really slowed my running down too, its tough to run on ice and I dont have a treadmill, so I havent been running much at all. Anyway, I need to grow a pair and go for a run, I'll just have to tread cautiously!

cascade prep

Did my first run since monday today with William "the pain train". We did the first 10 miles of the Cascade 1/2 marathon which is coming up in January (I think its the 11th). Anyway, it felt pretty good overall, it was snowy and cold, the weather has really taken a turn for the worse over the weekend! Im asking Jess to give me a ride to work tomorrow, the bike may not be the best choice in the icy conditions. I am feeling a little sore after the run, but hopefully tomorrow I will feel better. Planning on running on Tuesday and Thursday this week, with a weekend run with the Pain Train!

slacking due to sickness...

so my little guy has been pretty sick this week. yesterday he had a temp of 103, he got up several times in the night, the earliest at 4:30am (when I get up to go run) and I had to put him back to sleep. I came back to bed at 5:30 and slept till 8, it is now 8:23 and he is still asleep. This is unheard of for him! I am really hoping that this extra sleep will help him recover from whatever it is that is making him ill. I am planning on running with The Pain Train this Sunday at Shellburg, it is just going to end up being a light mileage week for me!

Garmin Update:
It is on the truck to be delivered today!! I cant wait!

The Pain Train Challenge is about the leave the station!

Did a nice 8 miler with William and Dennis today, we mapped out the course for "The Pain Train Challenge" coming up on 12/20/08. It looks to be a nice fun run/race! Hopefully the awesome weekend weather weve been having will hold out and it will be nice that day.

Garmin Update: my FR50 arrived in Olathe, KS today, so that means my return should be processed this week and they will be sending me my FR305 soon. I am stoked about that happening.

Anyway, Im planning on running on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday this upcoming week. Hopefully there will be no slacking on my part! Gotta get ready for the PTC (pain train challenge)
